Based at Barwon Heads Airport right on the start of the Great Ocean Road only a little over one hour from Melbourne, Adventure Flight Co also operates at Moorabbin Airport based in Melbourne itself.
Our pilots come from a range of backgrounds, from RAAF, airline and general aviation we only select the finest, most passionate local pilots.
Formally Warbird Air Adventures, Adventure Flight Co was founded by Anatole Mills and began operating in 2009 offering warbird adventure flights in the awesome CJ6 Warbird.
I’m actually typing this, so a bit weird talking about myself in third person – I grew up on a sheep and cattle farm in north east Tasmania, where we had an aircraft that was used on the farm and throughout the Bass Strait islands.
Being more interested in the aeroplane than the sheep, I eventually managed to save enough dollars to get my pilots licence at age 24 and have been flying ever since. Still couldn’t tell you how old a 2 tooth maiden ewe is, but the obsession with aviation continues…
In 2014 we had the fortune of Matthew Wuillemin, an ex RAAF PC9 instructor, Hercules and KC10 driver and now A330 Captain, joining us with his own CJ6 from which we created Combat Flights Melbourne.
In addition to the two CJ6’s we added the Grumman Open Cockpit Biplane at the 12 Apostles, the twin engine Piper Chieftain for King Island and long distance Outback trips and finally the rugged Cessna 185 bush plane for 12 Apostles & Great Ocean Road scenic flights and for getting smaller groups of 2-4 to King Island.
Adventure Flight Co has done over 4,000 aerobatic joy flights and spent thousands of hours flying over Bass Strait. Not to mention almost 1,000 happy customers that have flown over the 12 Apostles with us too. In all this time no one has even broken a fingernail. It was said in the early era of aviation but it remains true today, “Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to an even greater degree than the sea, it is unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity or neglect.” Adventure Flight Co stands by our healthily paranoid attitude to safety.
